Bay County Market Comments for Lynn Haven, Panama City, Panama City Beach

Sallie Mae will be closing it's doors
April 22nd, 2010 9:03 AM

The final word for the fate of local Sallie Mae workers in Lynn Haven was handed down yesterday. Employees were notified that the facility will close by the end of the year and another 700 jobs will be lost in Bay County.

I’ve harped on the unemployment issues so much over the last 18 months, I am exhausted.

The closure of this facility along with the Tyndall drawdown will add an estimated 1500+ workers to the unemployment pool. The continual upward spiral in Bay County’s unemployment will most likely further soften our weak housing market and drive another nail in consumer confidence.

Sallie Mae to Close.

Let's hope our local county leaders are diligent at work to replace some of these losses and keep our fingers crossed for better days to come !

I am sure the loss of jobs is not going to help the foreclosure situation. Look for that to increase.
